Want to connect from outside of the US -- for free?

Have great internet, but poor phone reception?

We have a solution for Windows users.

THREE ESSENTIAL NOTES:

  • This solution is for Windows users only; we're working on a Mac solution.
  • Google Talk within Gmail (Google Chat) WILL NOT WORK with these instructions Only the Google Talk download will work.
  • We're offering this solution for getting in as a trial while it's in the beta/experimental phase for your feedback.  Please leave feedback below.

If you already have Google Talk client installed as an application on your computer, not just within Gmail, you can skip directly to Step # 8.

1. Go to http://www.google.com/talk/install.html

2. You might get a prompt “This type of file can harm your computer. Do you want to keep googletalk-setup.exe anyway?” Click on the “Keep” button.

3. Click on the newly downloaded file “googletalk-setup.exe”

4. Click on the “Run” button

5. Click on the “I Agree” button

6. Launch the Google Talk client from Program

7. Sign in with your Google account.

8. Click the "Add" button.

9. Add a contact, gtalk@maestroconference.com, and click on the “Next” button

9. Click on the “Finish” button

10. Wait a minute or so for gtalk@maestroconference.com to show up in your contact list

11. If it still shows offline after a minute, click on the user in the contact list to open up the chat window (it may start showing online subsequently)

12. Click on the Call button in the user's chat window

13. After a few moments, you will hear the MaestroConference welcome prompt

14. Then type your unique PIN in the text chat window during the call preceded by + sign.  For example, type +123456 like this:

15. You will then be connected to your event.

(Note: Google Talk has delays in their system. You may not notice this, but if you are in a breakout, the person you are talking to may notice a delay before they start hearing you. This delay is built into Google Talk, unfortunately.)
